We met a guy named Matt Lane, one of the best people ever. He recently got hired from a non-profit.. he puts together huge events to better the community. Such as cleaning the beaches, putting together events for families , and his new project is getting these gardens put into schools so the kids can learn how to vegetable garden, and they have projects where they learn to cook. He does all sorts of amazing things. I wanted to help him out with a party that he was throwing so we went to help him out. The next morning he invited us to volunteer at a place that most people are not able to do. It is usually a local thing only. This guy (I totally forget his name) is a local hawaiian and decided ten years ago to build this boat- a boat made like they used to- and travel around the world in it. So this boat had been completely backed by the community and this mans dream is about to come true. It was really an experience being able to help out on this boat and it makes me want to work with the community more!

What I am currently doing
I just wanted to tell you a little bit about what I am currently doing. Every Monday night we have a movie night. There is a potluck dinner , we watch a movie and than there is a discussion afterwords. I have put up a blog that has allowed them to make further comments if they choose. So, every week I have to make sure that the movie that is going to be shown is up with a graphic. Furthermore, they have almost hit there 100th movie... I am putting together a book for them that consists of all of the movies they have seen, with the dvd graphic and they want their comments about the movie in there as well. So thats one project I have been working on.
Also, Tom and a couple of his friends are putting together "nude in nature". It is where photographers will come live on the property here for a week and learn how to take professional nude photos out in nature. Tom has given me the project to help make this happen - help with the brochure , get the models , all that fun stuff.
I just walked in to the studio yesterday and Tom had a printer here. Her speciality is printing photographs. Its pretty cool because 1. she is from boulder 2. Im getting to learn how to print currently, how to clean the printers, learn things with printers in a little bit more detail.

Interesting photos from scanning
Scanning in these photos I have got to see so much in these different locations- the architecture, the culture, and the arts. I just found these photos to be very interesting and so different from anything I have ever seen.
xingu river
I had the pleasure of meeting Alfrado. He is lifeguard at a local beach where we swim. We started talking, and he was telling me about his home land -Brazil- and about his project that he wanted to start. There is large river down there called the Xingu River that is about to be destroyed from companies building large damns on it- leading to the native people getting their homes destroyed. He has felt that it is his obligation to bring awareness to this. So he is going to go down there and paddle board to raise money-stopping at the villages. I wont go into too much details now about it , because me and the boys ended up helping him ...we took alot of footage and John did the video editing. The day that him and I talked- he had nothing done.. he now has a video- we put up a blog (which doesnt have much on it), he has a logo and sponsors. It was really spectacular being able to help Alfrado fulfill his dreams.

Website sit in
I had the privledge to sit in on a meeting with Tom about building websites. He is wanting to put up a website for one of his friends and wanted the website to be top-notch so he found the best designer on the island. It actually was a team of a couple. His wife is the one that does all the encoding and he designs it. It was really interesting listening in on it - how complex website building can be was beyond me. It taught me that I need to learn Flash.... its a must when it comes to website building. Also that the way it is encoded makes all the difference , like how fast it runs, depending if it is a certain coding it makes it easy for the client to interchange pictures easier-if it isnt in that coding than the clients has to go back to the encoder to do it. There is just so much that isnt seen and for a good website it takes ALOT of time and people that really know what they are doing. I did end up talking with Ben. He is local fine artist that is pretty well known. I ended up looking at his artwork with him on his website and it was amazing! I really like his style- it was funny because he does stuff that I really like doing- I wanted to do an all white color schemed painting and he did it using collages, layering and textures- the same stuff i wanted to do. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him about his work and how he got to the point where he has and all the different mediums he has used and what he works with now. Very inspiring. You can also see more work at his website www.benkikuyama.com
